What I Was Feeling When Gatsby Died
When Gatsby died I felt awful. I had lost a close friend that I knew would do anything for me. I felt bad for his father too because I knew he must be taking it harder than I was. But when I saw him he was not sad he was happy to see what his son accomplished. He walked through Gatsby's house admiring all of his possessions and just looking around. He was happy. I was confused. I didn't even know that Gatsby's real name was Gatz not Gatsby and when I saw his father he corrected me immediately. I also felt bad for Daisy in a way because I knew that some part f her still loved Gatsby and felt awful having to leave before she could even attend his funeral. I was also furious with Meyer Wolfsheim because he refused to attend Gatsby's funeral also. As far as I was concerned Meyer was one of Gatsby's closest friends and confidants but he would not agree to come. He kept telling me that he would not be available for the funeral and kept coming up with excuse after excuse. I was overall just flat out confused because somehow everything involving Gatsby was put on me to fix and prepare his funeral and his life. It was unfair.
What I was Thinking When at Gatsby's Funeral
When Jay Gatsby died I was not at my house. He had been murdered in his pool by Mr. George Wilson. Gatsby was killed because Wilson thought that Gatsby was sleeping with his wife when in reality it was Tom that was doing that. I was very angry to find out that Tom and Daisy moved right after Gatsby was killed and refused to even come to his funeral. It was hard for me to find many people that knew Gatsby. And I mean knew as in they were close friends or they knew what he looked like. In the end I couldn't get one person to come to his funeral. There was only two people at his funeral other than myself. His father who had flown in from North Dakota to see his son put in the ground. I was shocked to even see his father because Gatsby had told me that he was dead. The only other person that had come to his funeral was Owl Eyes who i had not seen since the first night I was at Gatsby's. He showed up to the Funeral late but at least he made an effort to come, unlike Daisy and Tom. I felt like a failure that I allowed Gatsby to go out with only three people to send him to the afterlife. But in my opinion it is partially his fault that he never made any other connections to people other than Daisy and I.
What I Was Thinking When I First saw Gatsby
When I first saw Gatsby I had arrived home from dinner with Tom, Daisy, and Jordan. I had just got out of my taxi and had quickly glanced at Gatsby's dock. I saw him walking out to the edge of his dock and reaching out towards a green light at the end of Daisy's dock. I thought that he was on some sort of drug at first because I thought it strange to just reach over the bay like he was. But quickly I began to realize that he was reaching for something , or someone. He was reaching for Daisy, his future. I thought that he would surely notice me staring right at him as he did this strange act but he did not. I also remember that I thought it was none of my business in the first place but something about my neighbor drew me to him. There was something about him that made me want to be near him. Something that made me want to meet him. This original feeling about Gatsby is what drew me close to him in the first place. That is why I was so overjoyed to receive an invite to his extravagant parties.
What I was feeling When Tom Punched Myrtle
When Tom and I first went into New York that summer we passed through the Valley of the Ashes. It is an awful place where people mope around slowly dying of all sorts of things. Perhaps one of he only attractive things about the place is a billboard for Doctor T.J Eckleberg. It is a blue billboard that has a set of eyes with glasses on. Some of the people that live in the valley of the ashes refer to it as a god that watches over and sees everything. Back to business. Tom and I were riding on the train through this place and Tom grabbed me and said that he wanted me to see his girl. So I reluctantly Jumped off the train and followed Tom to a small auto shop that had apartments above it. Tom started talking to what seemed to be the owner, Mr. George Wilson. I shook his hand and glanced at Tom who was looking around suspiciously. Then Myrtle Wilson came down the stairs bringing vitality into the room. Tom gave her a look and as Mr Wilson disappeared for a minute they talked. She met us in the city in an apartment that Tom bought for her. They had an extravagant little party that same night and it ended with me drunk and Tom hitting Myrtle for saying Daisy's name. As soon as I saw this thoughts began to race in my mind. I was scared that Tom would try to keep me quiet but I also felt bad for both Daisy and Myrtle. For they both loved a man who, to me, seemed quite rude and abusive.
Why I helped Gatsby and Daisy get Together
I helped Daisy and Gatsby get together because of what both of them did for me. Daisy set me up with Jordan and that is an amazing relationship. Gatsby has done so much for me also. Taking me under his wing, inviting me to his parties, telling me things about himself that he does not share with anyone else. He has even offered on several occasions to help me finically. They are both good people who love to help. Another reason I helped them get together is because of their past. They had been together before Gatsby went off to war and they were perfect together. Jordan told me that she was friends with Daisy and she saw Gatsby around Daisy all the time. She said that they were in love. I believed her so I tried to help them spark their flame again. I could tell Gatsby still loved Daisy and I knew that Daisy was not loving her current relationship to my old friend Tom. So I elt that I had to help them get back together.
Why I moved to West Egg
I moved to West Egg because I did not want to live in the city but I worked on Wall Street. I moved to West Egg because the cost to live in my small little hut was very cheap compared to the city. I only had t pay $80 to stay there for the whole summer. It was a fantastic deal and it also helped that I was living very close with my cousin Daisy. Her and I had not seen each other in awhile and I was nice to catch up with her and live close enough to see her almost everyday. She was also married to my old friend from Yale, Tom Buchanan. He was a star football player in our college days but has since moved onto Polo. I mainly moved to West Egg for financial reasons but it helped my case that two of my close friends lived very close. Lastly, the view of the Bay was just breathtaking and I knew i would love it here in West Egg
